Double flow VMC filters: general characteristics of the most common types

Filter Type Description Use Benefits Filtration Efficiency Captured Particle Size (µm)
Filter G1 to G4 Coarse filters Primary filtration Low cost 65% - 90% > 10 µm
Filter M5 to M6 Medium filters Finer filtration Cost/effectiveness balance 90% - 95% 1 - 10 µm
Filter F7 to F9 Fine filters High air quality High efficiency 95% - 99% 0.4 - 1 µm
HEPA filter High efficiency Sensitive environments Very high efficiency 99.97% 0.3 µm

Theoretical frequency of changing your double flow ventilation filters

According to a study by the Environment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME), a clogged filter can reduce the efficiency of the VMC by up to 30%.

The frequency of filter renewal depends on many factors, including pollen or work. Monitor their condition regularly to maintain good indoor air quality.

Filter Type Renewal Frequency
Filter G1 to G4 Every 3 to 6 months
Filter M5 to M6 Every 6 to 12 months
Filter F7 to F9 Every 9 to 18 months
HEPA filter Every 12 to 24 months
Activated Carbon Filter Every 3 to 6 months

MAINTENANCE OF A DOUBLE FLOW VMC

Maintenance of the dual flow ventilation installation is carried out according to the manufacturer's instructions which generally include:

  • Annual cleaning of the exchanger (often with hot water for plate exchangers),
  • Checking the passage of free air (dead leaves, snow) on the intake and discharge of outside air,
  • Cleaning the mouths,
  • Cleaning the network and collectors
  • Finally, cleaning or replacing filters 1 to several times per year depending on the surrounding pollution. This last point is very important. Clogged filters reduce the performance of the installation. It is important to pay attention to the prices and supply of replacement filters to reduce the costs associated with machine maintenance.

How to maintain your double flow VMC? When to change the filters?

Double-flow ventilation requires regular maintenance to operate optimally, that is to say, making as little noise as possible, consuming as little energy as possible and always renewing the same air flow.

Maintaining the filters is the most important thing to do on your dual flow VMC. It ideally consists of vacuuming or blowing out the filters once every 3 months and changing them once a year. This frequency is given as an indication and may vary depending on the quantity of pollutant inside and outside the home. Filters are used to protect the machine's fans and the health of the occupants. A G4 filter protects the VMC components, the F7 filter will also protect the occupants of the house.

Cleaning the insufflation and extraction vents is recommended at least once a year.

Cleaning the exchanger and distribution networks can be carried out once every 1 to 5 years depending on the quantity of pollutant inside and outside the home and monitoring of the filters.
