How Alexa works with the iDiamant: User feedback and opinion

The integration of home automation systems with voice assistants such as Amazon Alexa is becoming more common these days. The iDiamant, a module from Legrand, is one such system that can be controlled by Alexa.

The user can vocally control Bubendorff shutters, for example, without using his smartphone. In this article, we share a user's feedback on using Alexa with the iDiamant.

Installation of iDiamond

The user received and installed the iDiamant easily. However, registering shutters in the Legrand application was a bit more complex. The system gradually with the remotes did not work as expected. In the end, the user had to install the panes one by one when he came across a window of uninstalled objects.

After completing this step, the user confirmed that the integration with Alexa worked very well. For example, by saying " Alexa, close shutter 1 to 50% ", Alexa correctly responded to the command.

The user has not yet succeeded in performing this operation with a group of panes, via a routine or a scene. However, he is confident that it should be possible to do so. In addition, he was able to create a scenario in the Legrand application to close all the shutters of his veranda to 50%, which worked perfectly.

Legrand recommendations for activating Alexa and iDiamant

Here are the steps to follow :

  1. Installing the Alexa app : First of all, make sure you have the Amazon Alexa app installed on your smartphone or tablet. If not, download and install it from the App Store (for iOS devices) or Google Play Store (for Android devices).

  2. Setting up your Alexa device : Once the app is installed, set up your Alexa device. To do this, follow the instructions provided by Amazon.

  3. Installing the Legrand skill for Alexa : Open the Alexa app and search for "skill" Legrand. You can do this by using the search function in the "skills and games" section. Once you find it, select "enable to use".

  4. Connection to your Legrand account : After activating the skill, you will need to connect to your Legrand account. Enter your login credentials for the Legrand account you use to control your Eliot connected products.

  5. Discovering your connected devices : Now that your Legrand account is linked to Alexa, you can ask Alexa to discover your devices. To do this, simply say "Alexa, discover my devices" or select "Discover devices" in the Alexa app. Alexa will then search for and register your Legrand connected devices.

  6. Control your connected devices : Once the discovery is complete, you can start controlling your Eliot connected devices by voice. For example, you can say "Alexa, turn on the living room light" to turn on the living room light, or "Alexa, close the shutters" to close the shutters.

Home+ Control scenario

Regarding the voice control of the scenarios prepared in Home+Control via Alexa, the user discovered that it was sufficient to create an Alexa routine which triggered the Alexa scene corresponding to the Home+Control scenario. Indeed, scenarios are identified by Alexa as scenes.

To partially open all the shutters of his veranda, the user created a Home+Control scenario which he named "Shutters 50", by positioning the shutters to an opening of 50%. Then, in Alexa, he created a “shutters 50” routine, vocally triggered by the phrase “Alexa, open fifty percent”, and with the scene “Shutters 50” as the action. According to the user, it worked perfectly.
