What regulations apply to the recovery of rainwater?

The recovery of rainwater is subject to strict regulations defined by the decree of August 21, 2008. In the context of domestic use, the regulations define the rules set out below:

Rights :

- Rainwater collected downstream of inaccessible roofs can be used for domestic uses outside the building such as:

o Watering
o Rinsing and exterior cleaning

- Inside a building, rainwater collected downstream of inaccessible roofs, other than asbestos-cement or lead, can only be used for:

o Toilet supply
o Floor washing
o The water supply of the washing machine subject to appropriate treatment.

Homework :

- Rainwater can be collected exclusively downstream of your roof, when it is not accessible (except to ensure its upkeep and maintenance). Water storage can take place in an above-ground or buried tank. No anti-freeze product should be applied in the storage tank.
- If the installation for the collection and use of rainwater involves the discharge of waste water into the sewers, in particular when the rainwater is used for interior uses, a declaration of the installation must be made at the town hall.
- Rainwater is not drinkable (microbiological infection, acid pH, physico-chemical pollution due to atmospheric pollution?). It is therefore necessary to secure the installation to prevent any ingestion of this water by the inhabitants of the house and any contamination of the public network. For this, the installation must meetfollow the following rules:

o Each rainwater withdrawal point and each toilet fed by rainwater must display a signage plate that includes the mention non-drinking water with an explicit pictogram. Complete GRAF kits are delivered with:

o Rainwater taps must be able to be locked (blocked). Their opening must be provided with a specific tool, not permanently linked to the valve. o To ensure the continuity of the water supply, particularly for indoor uses (WC, washing machine) when the tank is empty, the rainwater distribution system can be connected to the public drinking water network with manual or automatic switching from one to the other. If this is the case, then the connection is ensured by a network disconnection system by total overflow.

- The installation must be regularly monitored and cleaned. For this, any point inside the rainwater tank must be reachable for cleaning. All our tanks are therefore fitted with an inspection dome with a 600 mm diameter manhole in which the filtration system is located.
These checks and maintenance are all the more important if you are a landlord with the following obligations:
o A check every 6 months of the cleanliness of the equipment, the presence of the "non-potable water" nameplates and the absence of a connection between the network intended for human consumption and the rainwater distribution network .
o The annual cleaning of the filters, the tank and the checking of the taps and taps.
o A health record including, among other things, the plans of the installation, a commissioning sheet, the dates of verification and maintenance, the statement of the indexes of the systems for evaluating the volumes of rainwater connected to the network of waste water collection.
