Differences between an R and RG engine from Bubendorff
If you are about to order a roller shutter or simply renew an existing motor, understanding the differences between an R and RG motor is important to make the right choice. Discover their characteristics as well as the advantages of these two systems.
The R engine (Radio)
It is an engine that communicates with a radio protocol. It is powered by your home's electrical network (unlike a Solar motor).
- Motor for the recent Bubendorff and Rolax ranges (different reference for the ROLAX because specific motor following its arrangement on verandas).
- Mains radio motor, Bubendorff protocol, delivered with its remote control.
- Standby consumption < 0.3 watts
- Class II motor: 2 wires (phase and neutral) no earth wire.
- 2 wires: Phase and Neutral
- Electronic limit switches: the upper and lower part are automatically adjusted, it is possible to adjust the upper stop manually if you wish
- Available in 10 Nm , 25 Nm and 33 Nm
- Not compatible with a powerline protocol
- Only compatible with radio protocol motors
The RG (Radio Grouped) engine
- Compatible for the powerline protocol (known as CPL), like your internet box
- Compatible for radio protocol
- Available in 10 Nm , 25 Nm and 33 Nm
- Supplied with 2.50 m cable containing 2 conductors (brown, blue)
Differences between the two engines
Centralization/Use
The RG engine is capable of handling twox communication protocols: PLC (carrier current) and Radio.
What are the advantages for you ?
- Compatible with additional Bubendorff transmitters (second transmitter, 5-channel remote control, clock).
- It spins slower (12 revolutions per minute versus 16) and will be quieter .
- Simultaneously compatible with old motors (powerline carrier protocol) as well as R radio motors (radio protocol), it is therefore the appropriate solution for renewing its motor fleet .
It can therefore replace the majority of existing motors (find out how to ensure compatibility below).
Facility
Mounting an R or RG engine is done in the same way. However , the procedures for centralization will be specific to the RG engine. Indeed, in the majority of cases, it will be necessary to follow the old 2-button procedures instead of the 3-button procedures in the manuals, and this, even if the transmitter sold with the motor has 3 buttons.
Price
At the time of writing this article, the additional cost for an RG engine is around 20% compared to an R engine.
Compatibility
To easily find out if your roller shutter is able to receive an R or RG motor, the easiest way is to ask our team. Thanks to your shutter serial number (S/N number), we can tell you the exact references to select free of charge .
You will receive an answer within 1 hour maximum , from Monday to Saturday. Remember to tick the “engine” box to receive personalized information.
