Discover the different 3-in-1 systems on the market to heat, ventilate and produce domestic hot water

3-in-1 ventilation system (Hot water + CMV + Heating) or separate equipment?

You are building a passive house or a high performance house using passive house principles:

  • Reinforced insulation and airtightness,
  • compact and well-oriented house,
  • dual flow ventilation.

You have questions about ventilation systems? How to produce domestic hot water, heating? And how to cool it?

As a preamble, some notions to master to understand the different equipments:

The ventilation with passive heat recovery corresponds to the classic double flow ventilation system equipped with a static heat exchanger.

The ventilation with active heat recovery on the other hand uses a small heat pump that draws energy from the extracted air and returns it to the air blown into the house.

In the case of active heat recovery, cooling is also possible in return for higher electricity consumption.

Air heating and cooling use the dual flow ventilation network and in particular the insufflation network to send warm air in winter and cold air in summer into the living rooms.

The aim of a passive house is to be sufficiently efficient in terms of design and insulation so that the dual flow ventilation network designed for hygienic air renewal is sufficient to heat the whole house using air heating.

For efficient but non-passive houses, it will be necessary to install other equipment because heating and cooling by air cannot be ensured at 100%, whatever the technology used.

The notion of flow rate is very important to take into account when sizing the network. It will have to be adapted for acoustic reasons, but also to guarantee the expected performances in terms of heating and cooling.

It will also be necessary to think about humidifying the air because too much air renewal in winter dries out the indoor air and creates discomfort.

MY DATEC 3-in-1 system

  • ventilation with active heat recovery
  • heating on the air
  • cooling

My Datec thermodynamic CMV renews the air in the house.

It is composed of an integrated heat pump (without an external unit) which recovers the energy of the extracted air to operate a heat pump which will heat or cool the new air blown into the living rooms (bedrooms, living room...).

For the heating an additional electric battery is often integrated into the machine.

Performances of the MYDATEC CMV:

  • Ventilation: up to 400 m3/h
  • Heating power supplied at +7°C ext / 20°C int: up to 3.1 kW at 300 m3/h
  • COP at -7°C ext / 20°C int. : up to 3.89 depending on flow rate
  • Cold power supplied at 35°C ext / 27°C int : up to 2.67 kW at 300m3/h
  • EER at 35°C ext / 27°C int : up to 2. 47 depending on the flow rate

The ambient indoor air that the heat pump, integrated into the ventilation system, uses to heat or cool the air is tempered and suggests optimal operation whatever the season.

Neverthless, the heart of this solution lies in the thermodynamic equipment, which must remain reliable in order to maintain a sufficient level of comfort. The system requires regular maintenance, which My Datec offers.

NILAN's COMPACT P 4-in-1 system:

  • Ventilation with active and passive heat recovery,
  • domestic hot water production,
  • heating on air
  • cooling

The NILAN Compact P 4-in-1 system provides 100% ventilation and domestic hot water production in a single compact unit measuring 900 x 610 x 2065 mm.

The Compact P recovers energy from the extracted air using a high-efficiency counter-current exchanger.
The residual energy that is not used by the exchanger is recovered by the heat pump for domestic hot water production and heating of the supply air.

As the heat pump has a reversible cooling circuit, the unit is able to cool the supply air in summer (announced gain of about 10 °C).

Performances of the NILAN COMPACT P:

  • Ventilation : up to 300 m3/h
  • Heat power supplied at +7°C ext / 20°C int : up to 2.3 kW at 220 m3/h
  • COP at -7°C ext / 20°C int. : DND
  • Cooling power supplied at 35°C ext / 27°C int : DND
  • EER at 35°C ext / 27°C int : DND
  • DHW volume : 180L
  • COP for DHW production : DND

Brink Climate System's AIRCONFORT 3-in-1 System

  • Ventilation with passive heat recovery,
  • Heating on air
  • Cooling

Brink C.'s AIRCONFORT system is a combination of air conditioning and heating systems. S. system is a combination of independent systems.

The Brink high-efficiency double flow ventilation is equipped with an exchanger for passive heat recovery. The double flow unit is based on a hydraulic battery (AIR/water exchanger).

It is on this hydraulic battery that you will be able to connect your hot or fresh water generator, such as a classic outdoor heat pump unit (AIR/water).

Thanks to this heat pump (PAC), you will be able to heat or cool the air, or even produce domestic hot water if you add a DHW tank. The heat pump can also be a boiler, or a boiler stove of the brand of your choice.

You can use a local installer who will also be able to maintain and repair it if necessary!

Performances of the AIRCONFORT BRINK C.S.:

  • Ventilation: up to 400 m3/h
  • Heat power supplied at +7°C ext / 20°C int: up to 3 kW
  • COP at -7°C ext / 20°C int. : Depending on the selected heat pump
  • Cooling power supplied at 35°C ext / 27°C int : up to 1.5 kW
  • EER at 35°C ext / 27°C int : Depending on the selected heat pump

There are other systems on the market such as:

  • GENVEX with its 185 BP combi for ventilation and domestic hot water,
  • ENERVENT which offers rotary heat exchanger units coupled with thermodynamic modules. ENERVENT is now part of the ZEHNDER Group.
  • ALDES with the T.ONE AquaAir which provides air heating/cooling and hot water production,
  • Etc. if you have a system to present to us you can write to us so that we can put it forward.

Our opinion on these systems for very well insulated houses or Passive Houses:

These systems are technically accomplished and recognized on the Passive House market. Each has advantages and disadvantages that fluctuate depending on the performance of the house, its geographical location and the expected results for the user. It is difficult to have a definite opinion on one solution or another.

Approach the manufacturers concerned to make up your own mind.

The advantage of all-in-one systems can turn into a disadvantage in the event of a breakdown. In some models, the heat pump that heats the air and produces domestic hot water works alternately.
It uses the air coming out of the exchanger, which will be cold in winter. The production efficiency will therefore be rather similar to a conventional thermodynamic air/water system.

The advantage of separate systems is of course the independence between the equipment, which will necessarily take up more space with the installation of outdoor modules in some cases.

Our solution for ventilating, heating, cooling and producing domestic hot water:

This solution is guided by our philosophy, namely "building a healthy, sustainable and efficient habitat". This means installing products that are independent of each other, low-tech and robust and above all easy to maintain over time. It is also important that the performance is certified!"Which brings us to a scenario consisting of:

If of course you have a project for a passive house, or an RT2012 house or an efficient renovation, it will be a pleasure for us to advise you to optimize the sizing of the products.
