The different types of Bubendorff electric motors

Wired Bubendorff motor

The wired motors are controlled directly by a switch (inverter control), with mains power supply.

They have the advantage of being more compact (36 to 40 cm depending on the roller shutters). They also make your life easier with automatic stroke adjustment.

Last point, the wiring is designed for outdoor conditions. Your installation will therefore be faster because you do not need to install a trunking.

Radio Bubendorff engine

This Bubendorff radio motor is controlled remotely with a radio command. Advantage: no cutting required to position your remote control. This is what is commonly called a "cordless" bubendorff motor.

You save precious time for your work. The remote control for your Bubendorff roller shutter is paired (programmed) directly at the factory, with a unique code between the motor and the remote control.

This secures your installation against “electronic” break-in attempts.

You once again benefit from the advantages of a Bubendorff motor (compactness, exterior quality cable, automatic limit switches). Note that this radio motor has 2 wires only (no ground wire).

Bubendorff engine modifications as of January 5, 2015:

FG, FA, MCG and MG engine to be replaced by a powerful RG (Radio) enginethis identical.

MCI 10 Nm motor remains (ID range radio) but MCI 25 and 33 Nm motor replaced by RG motor with adaptation kit to be ordered in addition.

Solar motor

As its name suggests, the bubendorff solar motor is intended for a roller shutter powered by solar energy.

It is therefore energy self-sufficient: no connection to the electricity network, which means extra time to take care of your family.

The autonomy is 30 days maximum. Control is done via a radio remote control, always with a unique code for your safety.

This Solar motor also allows you to save energy: automatic control in summer closes your roller shutters in the event of peak exposure and high heat.

Conversely, in winter, the shutters will automatically drop below 12°. You protect your home from the cold.

Last element, this engine remains compact (40 to 49 cm depending on the torque).

Hybrid engine

A hybrid roller shutter motor? Yes, it is powered by the mains, but in the event of a power outage, it has 7 days of autonomy.

How to identify the engine type?

It's quite simple. If you have a remote control with a red light: you have a radio engine. We also speak of a radio transmitter.

Conversely, if you have a wall control, specifically one that is fixed and positioned on your wall, you have a wired motor.

Powers of Bubendorff engines

Bubendorff roller shutter motors are available with the following torque (expressed in Newtons):

• 5NM
• 10Nm
• 25Nm
• 33Nm

It is not recommended to increase the power between the old engine and the new engine.

If your shutter measures less than 4.5m² (2m x 2.25m), there is a good chance that its motor has a torque of 10Nm.

In the event that its size is greater than or equal to 4.5 m², it is preferable to dismantle the shutter and look directly at the motor to find the answer to this question:

Note that the 6 Nm torque motors are now replaced by 10Nm torque motors. Also note that the 20 Nm motors are now replaced by 25 Nm motors which depending on the motor connectors will have a different reference.

What are the symptoms of a broken Bubendorff electric motor?

• Jerky operation:

Your roller shutter stops midway. You need to press your remote or wall control several times

• Noise (clicking for example)
• the shutter forces when it goes up
• Partial opening and closing

How much does a Bubendorff engine cost?

The price for a new motor starts around 160 euros (10NM wired motor), taking into account the price increases for 2021 and 2022.

Then, depending on the type of engine, its power supply and the torque, the price is in a range of approximately 150 euros to 220 euros (subject to changes in manufacturer prices)

What is the lifespan of a Bubendorff roller shutter motor?

A new engine comes with a 5-year warranty. It is difficult to give you a precise number of years of life for an engine. The quality of installation influences the age of the motor: a poorly installed roller shutter can force the motor, which inevitably reduces its lifespan.

Like any industrial product, its longevity is also linked to many elements: frequency of use, regular flight maintenanceand driving, climatic conditions, etc.

However, some of our customers change their engines after more than 20 years of use.

Where is your Bubendorff engine made?

The production plants are located in France and Germany, around the Rhine. This is an important point to note: Bubendorff is the only manufacturer to master the manufacturing of its engines.

What are the specific features of these roller shutter motors?

• Quality level higher than the NF standard: While the legal obligation is to test these motors over 14,000 cycles (one up-down), Bubendorff checks these motors over 30,000 cycles.
  This is double the regulatory minimum.
• All motors are X-ray checked on the production line
• A serial number specific to each engine to ensure its traceability

Standby consumption is below 0.5 Watt.

How long is the warranty for a Bubendorff roller shutter motor?

The general warranty conditions at Bubendorff changed in 2022, however this did not affect the engines: it remains at 5 years (excluding labor and travel).

How to add an electric motor to a Bubendorff roller shutter?

It is very simple. All you need to do is equip yourself with an engine kit from our spare parts. It is made up of an axis, the motor + transmitter as well as the other components to transform it into an electric roller shutter.
