Entrance door

Why choose an Aluminium front door

  • Easily customisable material: many choices of colour and design to find the right exterior door
  • Optimal thermal performance for doors with aluminium monobloc sashes
  • Longer life than PVC entrance doors
  • Unlike wood, an aluminium entrance door requires almost no maintenance. An annual cleaning is sufficient in most cases.

What are the advantages of choosing a one-piece aluminium entrance door?

There are two types of entrance door construction:

  • With Partitioned Panel
  • Aluminium monobloc

A partitioned panel door is more economical, more widespread and with decorative panels available in different materials: PVC, Alu, Glass.

This panel is 24 to 39mm thick depending on the manufacturer. It is directly "inserted" into a frame, a bit like glass is inserted into a window.

This creates a staircase effect aesthetically.

If you're looking for increased thermal performance, a one-piece aluminium window brings different advantages thanks to a completely different construction:

  • One-piece construction
  • 80 mm of insulation compared to 24 mm on the parclose panel
  • No staircase effect thanks to the sash frame which is hidden between the aluminium facings

These technical choices allow, on the door with a monobloc aluminium sash:

  • Better energy performance: heat loss is limited
  • More harmonious visual appearance (no cascade effect)
  • Reinforced security

The Ud coefficient

To estimate the heat loss between the inside and outside of a house, several formulas are there to help you. The Ud coefficient is one of them and measures the thermal insulation provided by the front door.

  • "U" stands for the insulation coefficient
  • "d" stands for "door", i.e., the product.

This coefficient designates theheat flow between 2 environments by evaluating the energy that passes through the door.

The lower the Ud coefficient (W/m². K), the more insulating the entrance door. This coefficient should beas close to 1 as possible.

Thus, if you opt for a low Ud coefficient, your energy consumption will be reduced. In particular, the performance of entrance doors is graded from "A" to "F" according to the Ud coefficient.

If the door is rated A, this means that its insulating performance is optimal.

What material should I choose for good thermal insulation for my door?

For good insulation, materials such as wood and composite which benefit from very good insulating qualities.

If you are looking for a designer material such as aluminium, which is considered conductive, we recommend installing a thermal break structure or improving the quality of the joints.
