What are these criteria and questions that allow you to define the future heating system for your home?

• New or renovation?

The thinking will not be the same if the future heating system equips a new building subject to RT2012 and therefore with an efficient level of insulation and taking into account good airtightness of the building or if the future heating system equips a renovated building whose level of insulation, airtightness, treatment of thermal bridges will be more uncertain.

The RT2012 regulation in new buildings prohibits certain heating methods such as electric heating alone, or prohibits others if the level of insulation of the building is too low.

• Exposure and geographic location?

Depending on the region, the altitude of the building, the exposure, heating methods may be recommended or not recommended.

• Your sensitivity to the types of energy available?

What is your sensitivity? Rather gas, electricity, solar or wood with their respective advantages and constraints?

• What costs?

That is to say the cost of installing the heating system and the cost of operation, price of fuel, maintenance, simplicity and durability of the technology, environmental cost.

Why do a thermal study of your future home?

Firstly, having a thermal study carried out by a qualified person makes it possible to optimize the design of the future building: the level of insulation, the right methods, points of vigilance, etc.

Then, the thermal study gives the losses of the building, that is to say the need for heating power without oversizing (or undersizing) the future installation. An oversized installation will cost more and could in certain cases perform less well.

A more in-depth thermal study also makes it possible to estimate the actual energy consumption of the future building and therefore to calculate the return on investment times for the solutions envisaged.
