Aeraulic or hydraulic Canadian well ?
Whether your Canadian well is hydraulic or aeraulic (air), it will respond to the following functions:
- Preheat the air in winter before entering the double flow VMC; no more need for an electric preheating coil or reduction in the fresh air flow rate of the dual-flow VMC.
- Refresh the air in summer before entering the double flow VMC.
The version of the Canadian hydraulic well has the major advantage of avoiding hygiene problems that could appear due to humidity.
This also prevents the appearance of water stagnation in the pipes of a poorly implemented Canadian aeraulic well.
The difference is significant since nothing is worse than blown air, already stale, throughout your house.
How does the Canadian hydraulic well work?
The geothermal collectors made of DN32 polyethylene tube are buried at a minimum depth of 1.2 meters underground.
The glycol water heats or cools in the geothermal collectors and is pumped to the air/water heat exchanger (or exchange battery). This water thus heats or refreshes the fresh air before passing into the double-flow VMC.
This process increases the efficiency of a double-flow plate exchanger plant and prevents the exchanger from freezing up when the air temperature is below 0°C.
To obtain good performance, the conduit must be buried approximately 2 m deep, an area where the temperature varies on average between +5 and +13°C. These temperatures can vary depending on many meteorological criteria and the type of terrain.
Note that since rotary exchangers do not risk freezing up to -22°C, this process is less useful for preheating the air in winter on double-flow power plants with rotary exchangers.
Canadian well or Canadian well?
The correct spelling is "Puits" and not Canadian wells as is often seen.
Here is the official definition of Larousse:
Canadian well
"surface geothermal device, taking air from the outside of a house to return it inside, heated in winter and cooled in summer. (Also called a Provençal well, this device is buried approximately 2 m , depth where a constant temperature of 15°C prevails.)"
